In 2008 the existing Lancashire Regional Committee became two sub-committees, West Coast and Ribble Valley. The reason for this was to help create more awareness of Spoon in the County by opening access to more people by additional events and business networking.
John M Lavelle has taken on the Chairmanship of the new Ribble Valley Region. New members and any opportunity to raise additional funds are appreciated so please do get in touch with John on the details on their webpage.
Since its inception in 1999 we have been able to support several projects throughout Lancashire. They include two 'safe play areas', a sports inclusion programme for disabled children in partnership with Sport England and Lancashire Sport, providing £70,000 in partnership funding for the Red Marsh School Hydrotherapy pool and more recently the Therapy Suite at Willow Grove School at Ashton-in-Makerfield.
As a region we have been very fortunate that many people have recognised the excellent work undertaken by the Wooden Spoon and have generously supported our Charity by donations from their personal fund raising events, family parties and legacies.
Our biggest supporter has been Roy Wilkinson and his family, owners of Guy's Thatched Hamlet at Bilsborrow who have donated over £30,000 from the Guy's-Murphy's Oyster Festival held each September.
