The new Wooden Spoon Fitness Centre at Valence School in Westerham, Kent, was opened on Thursday 29th September by Mick Skinner, former England & Harlequin rugby player and Honorary President Kent Region Wooden Spoon. The Kent Region of Wooden Spoon contributed £40,000 for the refurbishment of a residential block at the Special School for children and young people aged 5-19 years who have physical disabilities and complex medical needs.
Paul Shrubsall, Chairman of Kent Wooden Spoon Region, and enthusiastic fundraisers from the TNT Maidstone Depot joined Headteacher Roland Gooding at the celebrations, to see for themselves how the money raised for Wooden Spoon has benefitted children such as those at Valence School.
The refurbishment of the Fitness Centre at Valence School, a well established residential and day Special School, has provided a state of the art suite of rooms and equipment designed to satisfy a wide range of physical education needs. The Wooden Spoon Fitness Centre will also be made available for use by disabled children from other schools in the area.

Katrina Dowell, TNT Maidstone Depot Secretary, said, "Meeting everyone at Valence School and seeing how our fundraising efforts are making a real difference to the children was an incredibly rewarding experience. An experience, we all agreed, which would be one that we will always remember."
Paul Shrubsall, Chairman of Kent Wooden Spoon Region, said, "Wooden Spoon is very proud of the support we are able to provide to Valence School, Westerham, and would also like to recognise the assistance and sterling fundraising efforts for Wooden Spoon by the TNT Maidstone Depot staff."
Headteacher, Roland Gooding said, "We rely on the fundraising efforts of many supporters and well-wishers to make a real and positive difference to the lives of our wonderful students here at Valence School. The Wooden Spoon's hard work raising funds has enabled us to provide a fully accessible Fitness Centre. Thank You Wooden Spoon.
