Chairman, Phil Pemble is keen to add a couple of new members to the committee, making it even stronger and helping to spread the workload. The region is looking to run annually a sporting dinner, a summer ball and a golf day amongst other events.

| David Duckham, Honorary President, Enters PRA Hall of Fame |
The Professional Rugby Players' Association held the 8th annual Computacenter Rugby Players' Awards at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Wednesday 10th May. This is a unique awards dinner in that the players themselves vote for their chosen players' of the season. Also included at the awards is the induction of former stars of the game into the PRA Barclays Hall of Fame. Three legends of the game where included into the PRA Barclay's Hall of Fame this year: English winger David Duckham, Irish centre Mike Gibson and Scotland and Lions great Ian McGeechan were all honoured for their contributions to the game. The West Midlands Committee would like to congratulate our very own Honorary Regional President, David Duckham, on recognition of his contributions to the game of rugby.
David John Duckham was born in Coventry, June 28, 1946. He spent his club days playing for Coventry for 12 seasons between 1967 and 1979 and was the first team Captain from 1972-74. He also played for Warwickshire and captained the County team in 1972-73 and 1973-74. He made his International debut against Ireland on Saturday, 8th February 1969. David quickly established himself as one of England’s best left wingers. In total he won 36 caps between 1969 and 1976, touring to Fiji and NZ in 1973, with his final game being against Scotland at Murrayfield. Overall, he scored 10 tries. He also played for the Lions on the 1971 tour of Australia and New Zealand in the Lions only ever victory over the Kiwis and scored a record six tries in one provincial match. In 1977 David was awarded the MBE for services to rugby and is now a popular after dinner speaker. |

| Next Event - 3 July Golf at Aston Wood
The West Midlands Regional Wooden Spoon golf day will be held for the third consecutive year at Aston Wood Golf Club www.astonwoodgolfclub.co.uk on Monday July 3rd.
We have established a value for money event in a friendly environment providing everyone with a great day's golf coupled with superb hospitality and entertainment. This year's cost is £325 for a team of four to include welcome brunch, golf and a 4 course dinner. There are however, a number of additional extras in the 2006 price including enhanced prize packages and the potential to compete in the International Pairs Final at St Andrews Bay Golf Resort and Spa. Of course, the winning team at Aston Wood will go forward to represent West Midlands in the Spoon regional finals at Belton Woods in September.
As another first for Spoon in the region, we are working this year in partnership with prolific Pertemps Bees try scorer Nick Baxter who has committed to donating part of his benefit year proceeds to a local charity. Phil Pemble, Regional Chair said 'I am naturally delighted that Bacco has chosen Spoon as the charity of his choice, so you might just be rubbing shoulders with one or two International players out there on the course!' Nick will shortly become a member of the exclusive 150 club having scored 149 tries in his career.
We will keep you updated as details are finalised but please check your availability. If you can enter a team please email phil.pemble@ppdg.co.uk or telephone 0121 351 1283 or 07979 517671 to confirm.
