In March 1983 some Irish friends gave us a wooden spoon in Dublin - England having lost!

A group of ‘Founders’ got together to discuss how to engender the spirit of losing into winning to support kids that needed help...and
Wooden Spoon was born.

Our first event was at Farnham Golf Club on 16th September 1983 - hence the same date as this silver event to celebrate 25 years of fun and fund raising. We had approximately 100 guys playing golf followed by a rugby dinner raising £8,000 with ‘mighty craic’ and some ‘ties’. This was sufficient for our first project - a kids ‘Sunshine’ bus at Aylesbury Special School.

Shortly afterwards the Charity was formalised and since then we have been joined by the ladies and have raised £13.5 million, spending this on projects including hydrotherapy pools, sensory rooms, play equipment, sports areas and refuge centres.

Thanks to all our friends, supporters and sponsors - and in particular our own regional volunteer teams.

Help us...to stir smiles and raise funds for kids projects.

More is needed throughout the UK and Ireland and we are using our Silver Anniversary year to do more. Please come and join us at the celebratory Founders’ Lunch.
