Even the rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of Wooden Spoon supporters, as they cheered on Spoon’s 19 runners who all completed the 26 mile 385 yard course of the 28th London Marathon in April

The first Spoon runner home crossed the line in an impressive three hours, 12 minutes and 42 seconds and was followed in quick succession by the reainder. But for the majority, it wasn’t the time taken that was important, it was the achievement in completing the course and raising money for Wooden Spoon projects across the UK and Ireland.

After the race, the runners made full use of the leisure facilities at the Hilton Park Lane, before finding the energy to join their family and friends at the post race buffet sponsored by the hotel. More than 80 guests joined the celebration, which was attended by Peter Scott, Wooden Spoon’s President, whose granddaughter was among the runners and Spoon’s Deputy Chief Executive, Tony Richards, whose daughter also took part in the race.

A guest appearance was also made by Spoon’s mascot, Woody, who braved the weather to add his support throughout the race. Although he wasn't plucky enough to enter the event, he did prove popular with spectators of all nationalities, signing autographs, posing for photos and even managing to feature on national TV.

Full results for Spoon’s 14 Golden Bond runners and the five who secured their places through the public ballot are now available at www.spoonchallenges.com. The Spoon Challenges’ treasurer will announce the fundraising totals in the next few weeks.Thank you to everyone, runners and supporters alike, who gave up their time and expended so much energy on behalf of Spoon. Your efforts are hugely appreciated.

The 2009 event takes place on Sunday, 26th April. If you are inspired to join the throngs pacing the streets of the capital, there are two easy steps to register your interest. First complete the registration form at http://www.spoonchallenges.com/ so we can make sure we have your details. Then sign up for the public ballot at http://www.london-marathon.co.uk/. We ask everyone to do this, so that we can maximise the number of runners taking part. The public ballot will be announced in October, after which we will enter all runners who have not secured a place and are still interested, into the Spoon ballot.
