All these players have chosen to play for the charity team as ambassadors for Wooden Spoon both on and off the pitch.

The Stockholm tournament hosted 16 women’s teams from all over Europe and Scandinavia. Between all the players, the Spoon Women’s team boasted an impressive 727 caps and many young opposition players were in awe of their international heroes. Spoon Women cruised through to the final against the Stockholm Exiles and in front of an enthusiastic crowd provided a masterful demonstration of ten’s rugby.

Maggie Alphonsi iRB Player of the year made a huge impact with the organisers and beat ‘Susie’s Saloon’ player, Henry Head to win the ‘Player of the Tournament’, making it another first for WoodenSpoonRugby. A great endorsement of the women’s game.

In addition, the team spent the weekend selling Wooden Spoon wristbands to fellow rugby players and promoting the work of the charity, raising a further £500 that goes directly to support disadvantaged children.

CEO of Wooden Spoon, Geoff Morris said: “What these players are doing for Spoon is very impressive. They have really embraced the work of the charity and are giving up their time to do what they love while promoting Wooden Spoon. The team has set a standard in the last three tournaments and on the touring circuit are now considered the team to beat. Spoon Rugby want to take that successful reputation to the next event in Dubai and to other tournaments over the next year to continue to further build awareness of the charity and generate even more success both on and off the field.”

John Dewhurst, Manager of Spoon Rugby said: “It is a pleasure to watch these girls play at such a high standard. We hope that these successive victories will encourage people to support Spoon through Spoon Rugby. If there are any sponsors out there who want to help, then please get in touch and jump on board for what we hope is going to be a very special journey for Wooden Spoon and the players supporting our Charity.”
