Kieron has recently spent two days with Pippin’s Designs who have been funded by Spoon to work with schools to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children with learning difficulties throughout South Wales to take part in supervised art sessions.

Sally and Jon at Pippin's produce the designs - usually portraits of rugby stars and entertainers, on wooden boards and children fill in the pictures in bold colours. It is essentially painting by numbers but the results are remarkably lifelike and very professional.

Jon and Sally draw the pictures for us and help us paint it right. My painting ended up way better than I thought it would. I'm going to give it to my Mum and Dad. I think it looks like me a lot and I can't wait to take it home, but I've got to wait till the varnish dries.”

Many of the completed pictures hang in the Millennium Stadium as well as Cardiff Arms Park, the Liberty Stadium in Swansea and in schools and Art Galleries. The experience for the children is very fulfilling especially when they also get to meet and work with the subject they are painting.

This has been a hugely successful project for Spoon benefiting at least a thousand children over the 75 painting days in the last two years.
“We know all about Wooden Spoon and how they have fun raising lots of money. We met Bob Harris and he told us he has been helping Wooden Spoon for 10 years. He was really nice, and so was his wife Carol!"

The Partnership with Pippin’s Designs has brought so much joy and Sally and Jon have been inspirational to these youngsters, as Kieron confirms, “Thank you Wooden Spoon, thank you Bob Harris and thank you Jon and Sally, we had lots of fun!”
